For a restaurant to succeed it must be distinctive enough to bring guests through the doors for the first time and good enough to keep them coming back. Benihana redefined success when it introduced its totally new concept of entertaining dining to the New York restaurant scene. Over four decades ago Benihana changed the industry and has been tantalizing millions of guests ever since.

Benihana, founded by Japanese-born entrepreneur Rocky H. Aoki, began in the U.S. as a Japanese steakhouse unlike any other in the country. Rather than using conventional kitchens, Benihana's highly skilled chefs present and prepare all entrees at a "hibachi" table, around which up to eight guests are seated. A fast-paced performance of chopping and juggling creates an exciting teppanyaki-style dining experience for guests of all ages.

The rare longevity of the Benihana concept and product distinguishes this company from the rest of the industry. No other restaurant chain can claim it's as successful. Since 1964, Benihana has offered the same quality of service, the same fresh product and a loyal guest relationship.

In late 1999, Benihana purchased a majority share in Haru, an upscale, New York sushi concept, that had already proven itself at two locations.

The original Haru sushi restaurant opened on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in 1995. Haru's success, fueled by a combination of excellent quality and reasonable prices, led to the opening of a second location in 1998. Today, there are eight Haru locations that feature a distinctive atmosphere and menu that appeals to sushi enthusiasts and all who enjoy fine dining.

In 2002, Benihana acquired the RA Sushi restaurants. The experience is subtly sexy and energetic with a hip ambience and a young, playful staff. Today, there are 25 locations spanning from CA to FLA.

Haru

With seven high profile restaurants in New York and Boston, Haru serves inventive Japanese cuisine ranging from sushi, sashimi and creative salads to signature dishes like carpaccios, ceviches, tartares, filet mignon, grilled spicy shrimp and specialty rolls. Haru also provides delivery and catering services, private rooms and lounges, outdoor dining spaces and a vibrant bar scene at most locations.
